The new Jeep
Wrangler Unlimited X.....with a twist (this one has received what every Jeepster would like to see his or her Jeep look like). A lift kit some monster mudders, custom bumpers and tow hooks. This Jeep Wrangler unlimited has received some upgrades, but not everything the owner wants. That is; not just yet, maybe Santa will bring him the winch, roof rack with lights and a new computer chip to boost his horsepower and fuel economy.
Now seriously; I can't say that my Jeep has even received this much attention.....yet. But I can tell you this, Jeep finally got it right. The X model which I own comes with a V-6 standard 6 speed (which I have) or with an automatic transmission. You get two tops, both hard and a soft top, and the hard top has two removable panels for that topless feeling. I purchased my jeep in December of 2006 (2007 model) and as of one year have racked up 45000 kms. The mileage is like it says on the windshield 20 mpg city and 24 mpg on the highway. The ride is not as bumpy as the YJ's, TJ's and older models due partially to a longer wheelbase and a wider stance. As far as needing four wheel drive for driving on icy roads; the posi-traction provides enough control, unless your driving in deep snow or really slushy conditions. The tires that come with it are fine, but as soon as they're worn down I'll be buying mud/snow tires for better traction off road in deep snow and mud. I haven't convinced myself to go for the larger tires, lift kit and tricking the whole truck out (due only to how much it would cost) but it sure is tempting. I have heard that computer chips are already available and as time passes more and more aftermarket parts will become available. As far as any issues with the vehicle, I have had the stabilizer bar replaced (due to a bad part), issues with the electronic stabilizer program (which is part of a recall notice) for replacement and the vehicle shutting off while driving (which is also a recall notice) for fixing. Would I buy another one..........YES! Would I buy the Rubicon next time.......YES! There have been rumblings that Jeep was thinking of having more engine options, possibly a diesel and possibly the Hemi.......can you imagine a Hemi in this vehicle? I can! Jeep is also considering a re-launch of the Jeep pickup, I have seen photos of the proto-type, and its not bad looking, last I heard it may be available in 2009. Overall I would give this vehicle a 4.5 out of 5, oh yeh the cost......my Jeep listed at just over $28000 plus taxes; I also got chrome stepboards on mine. If you're shopping around I don't think anything can touch the Jeep as far as price......................and lets face it Jeep has been making vehicles for a long time. Like I said earlier "THEY GOT IT RIGHT THIS TIME"!!!!!
